The glen of Imaal terrier originates from Ireland and was used as working terrier and for hunting foxes. They are generally used for working in herding and for eradicating vermin.

Appearance

The glen of imaal is a medium sized dog, which weighs approximately 35 pounds and is 14 inches tall. The body coat is medium which may be brindle or blue in color. They have a large head and short legs. Colors may vary from black or tan. The coating color of black may eventually fade out, when a tan coat emerges in the body.

Temperament

The glen of imaal terrier is a docile animal, which can be aggressive, when provoked. Although they don’t inflict serious injuries but they have a hunting instinct. They can be driven by preys and sometimes have the tendency to attack domestic cats and rabbits.

Health

The breed has no such major health problems except the common dog ailments. It has a life expectancy of 13-14 years. 

History

The glen of imaal terrier has no such historical evidence about its origin. The only known information about the dog is the name, which has originated from the name of a place in Ireland. The first public appearance of the breed was in 1933. It is basically a hunting dog but in recent years, they have become a great companion of animals.
